WEBSITES
Websites have the power to influence and inform in a way which is awesome
and their benefits are not restricted to those who own computers.
Where else can your prospects and clients find out all about you, quickly and smoothly, and with only two clicks of a mouse?
This is new media, its effectiveness cannot be properly judged by shiny portfolios, or by
slides, or by A4 screenshots viewed on a boardroom table, let alone on a webdesigner's posh monitor.
Over 80% of the benefit of a website is that
"www" on all of your stationery, because nearly everyone will then go and have a look.
So what will reassure those who look?
- Brand Image: consistent with your stationery.
- Speed: fast-loading first screen, so
- Images small (thumbnail?) maybe with enlarged version as clickable option.
- Scope: driven by what your clients need.
- Content: less is More.
- Impact: at least 20% "white space" and
- Ban fancy backgrounds and too many things that move.
- Navigation: consistent, clear, preferably by click only and with the
same Menu always in the same place on each page of the website.
"Perfection is achieved, not when there is
nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "Wind, Sand, and Stars", 1939.
